Wow! Wallpaper is BACK!!!
Want an easy way to update your home or office using some of the hot trends for interior design in 2017? Of course, you do.
Jewel tones, neutrals and geometric patterns… Heck, I’ll even throw in some more hot trends: metallic, black + white, blue, nature-themes…oh my!
Yes, wallpaper can hit all of the trends easily and is a great “go-to” solution. The trick? Express yourself in the style and placement of the wallpaper. Here are some ideas with a-little-goes-a-long-way philosophy:
- Choose one wall as an accent: choose a bed wall, a dining room wall or in a dormer. With a bold wallpaper, you can even forgo the headboard and/or art.
- Place wallpaper inside a cabinet: or in a bookshelf, curio or any piece of furniture with shelves. It especially works well with furniture or cabinetry that has glass doors.
- Step it up: with so many patterns from which to choose (from trees to tiles!), stair risers or an entryway can be made more eye-catching.
- Watch your accent: yes, accentuate an architectural feature on a recessed ceiling, above a chair rail, use as a wainscot, in a niche, or under or on a stairwell.
- Small, but mighty: small rooms, like powder rooms or laundry rooms, are great places to add visual interest with wallpaper.
- Update your furniture: change the look of furniture using a wood- or slate-look paper to create nature-inspired warmth.
- Get creative: place washable wallpaper on a kitchen island, as a backsplash, or on a range hood. This placement is unconventional and unexpected.
- Cozy up with nature: nature-based wallpapers of trees, birds, a forest with a waterfall mural, or historic-themes can create a relaxed coziness.
- Paintable wallpaper: these are textured (embossed) patterns that come in a white or cream thick paper, ready for the paint color of your choice to be rolled on. Or, select a “tin ceiling” pattern by placing paintable wallpaper in a tray ceiling and coating with a metallic paint. Or, glaze it for a more “antique” look.
- Custom-crafted: artist-made or custom/”homemade” wallpapers are available, thanks to digital printing. Have wallpaper made from your own artwork, photographs or any computer-generated image on Design Your Walls, Totally Custom Wallpaper or Spoonflower.
So, go for it! With such a variety of styles, patterns, colors and textures (think velvety, stone, brick, metal, wood) and a variety of price-ranges, your home or office can truly be an expression of you.
